Schlieren Imaging Photo Album
Here are some photos taken during my time spent as a Research Engineer
at the University of Tasmania investigating mixing processes in diffusion
flames.
Photo 1: This one shows the general lab set-up with combustor and
lasers in action.
Photo 2: This one shows a digitally captured schlieren image of
a propane/air diffusion flame with an inner nozzle propane velocity of
2.5 m/s and and outer annular nozzle air velocity of 2.0 m/s. Note the
two distinctly visible flows with different size eddies attributed to the
inner and outer nozzles.
Photo 3: Here is another schlieren image of the same combustor under
different flow conditions. In this case the inner nozzle propane velocity
was 2.5 m/s and the outer annular nozzle air velocity was 8.0 m/s. In this
case the flow shows turbulent eddies and less order than the more transitional
flow condition of photo 2.
